Helen B. Rodzen, 91, Warren


Helen B. Rodzen, 91, of Warren Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence, R.I., surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Warren, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Franciszek and Julia (Matula) Rodzen.

Helen is survived by her sister, Sophie (Rodzen) Urban of Warren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Casimir Rodzen and Nellie Wujcik. Helen was the beloved Cioci of many nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Warren, she worked for the State of Rhode Island’s Department of Administration until her retirement. Helen was a devoted communicant of the former St. Casimir’s parish in Warren, where she faithfully participated in weekly Eucharistic Adoration.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where the family received friends Tuesday, March 25. A Mass of Christian burial followed in St. Alexander’s Church, 221 Main St., Warren. For information and condolences, see www.wjsmithfh.com.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
