Heavy rains wreak havoc on Bristol roads

With the National Weather Service issuing weather advisory calling for potential rainfall of up to two inches per hour until 10:30 a.m., Bristol is already underwater in some spots.

Adding to the rainfall, high tide for Wednesday, July 16 is 11:57 a.m., which, together with heavy rainfall commonly wreaks havoc on trouble spots such as Hope Street at Guiteras School and neighborhoods abutting Tanyard Brook.

At 8:30 a.m., most of Bristol was passable despite the heavy rainfall. High Street, at its intersection with Washington Street, was nearly impassible, with street flooding reaching the bumpers of parked cars.

If traveling through flooded areas, it is recommended that motorists avoid driving through washed out roads.
