PORTSMOUTH — Commissioner of Education Deborah Gist and WJAR's Patrice Wood showed up at Portsmouth High School's front door at 10:30 Wednesday morning with a camera crew for a surprise visit. "They were here to present our guidance counselor, Ms. Erin Phillips, with a Golden Apple Award for excellence in the teaching profession," said Principal Robert Littlefield. "Along with a nice Golden Apple trophy, she also received a $250 grant from Hasbro to aid her in her work."
Ms. Phillips was nominated for this award by the family of one of her students. "She is a tireless advocate for her kids, gives great counseling advice, and is always available to students, teachers, and families. We are lucky to have her. Congratulations Ms. Phillips!" Mr. Littlefield said.
