Georgianna Almeida, 97, Bristol


Georgianna (Sousa) Almeida, 97, of Fox Hill Ave, Bristol, died Sunday, July 13, at the Warren Skilled Nursing, Warren. She was the wife of the late Joseph Almeida.

Born in Plymouth, Mass., a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (DaPonte) Sousa, Mrs. Almeida was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church.

She is survived by her children, Shirley Dunbar of Bristol, Joseph Almeida, and Richard Almeida of Warren; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Mary (DaPonte) Sousa, son Robert Almeida and daughter Leonora Soares.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Thursday, July 17, at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
