Georgette Sicard, 79, Westport


Georgette (St. Michel) Sicard, 79, of Westport, died on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.  She was the loving wife of the late Richard Sicard and daughter of the late George and Blanche (Perron) St. Michel.

Georgette leaves behind her son, Rev. Kenneth Sicard, O.P. of Providence College; two daughters, Michele Cain and companion Richard Beaudry, and Karen Newton and husband Fred, all of Westport; three granddaughters, Ashley Cain of Olympia, Wash., and Kelsey and Kailyn Newton of Westport.  Georgette also leaves behind her brother, Gerald St. Michel and wife Colette of Somerset; and brothers-in-law Roy Gillette of Fall River and Leo St. Pierre of Berkley.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Thursday, April 24, at 9 a.m. from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.  Calling Hours are Wednesday, 4-8 p.m.  For directions or to sign the on-line guest book please visit

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
