Gary Lincoln, 59, of Bristol


Gary Lincoln, 59, of Viking Drive, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 surrounded by his loving family and true friends. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Antonette (Vodnansky) and Robert R. Lincoln.

Gary was the beloved husband of Joyce (Luiz) Lincoln for 35 years and the devoted father of his son Pierce Lincoln of Boston, Mass. and daughter Whitney Lincoln of Bristol. He was the brother of Deborah Cox, Kathy Lincoln, Jeffrey Lincoln, Joanne Carragher, Robert Lincoln, Jr. and Chris Lincoln and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Gary graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in finance. He joined UBS in late August 2007 as a senior vice president of investments and spent 20 years at Morgan Stanley where he was a member of their prestigious Chairman’s Club.  In February 2009, Gary was named one of the top 1000 financial advisors in America and one of the top three financial advisors in Rhode Island by Barron’s magazine.  He was recently recognized as one of the top ranked financial advisors in America by the financial publication, “Research Magazine,” in The Winner’s Circle Award.  He earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst designation from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.

He was known to his partner, Elizabeth Cummins, and to his many clients as stickler for detail with a depth of understanding of investments. Gary was the recipient of numerous accolades and honors recognizing his accomplishments in his field. An avid golfer, he was a member of RI Country Club for over 30 years and served as the golf committee chairman and greens chairman for many years.

Last summer Gary, with his golf partners, won the prestigious Stone of Accord Golf Tournament at the Old Head Golf Links in Kinsale, Ireland with 35 International teams competing.

A man of deep faith and personal achievement, his greatest success was the cherished family he leaves behind. His funeral services were held on Friday, June 14 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Barry Gamache at St. Mary’s Church. Con celebrants were Deacon Chris Lincoln and Deacon Paul Bisbano. Liturgical readings were by Heather Luiz and Debbie Cox.  The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Deacon Chris Lincoln.  The offertory gifts were presented by Paige Emond, Molly Emond and Stacey Patterson.  The eulogy was given by Pierce Lincoln. Burial followed in Juniper Hill Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Gary McLane, Richard Abrams, Jason Resmini, David Patrick, William Grossman, Joseph Barry and Kyle Phelps.

Arrangements were by the George Lima Funeral Home.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
