Gary Everett Joseph Longo, 44, New Bedford, Mass.

March 7, 1968 - Sept. 5, 2012

Gary Everett Joseph Longo, 44, of New Bedford, Mass. passed away on Sept 5th in Bristol, RI after a long and courageous fight with cancer.  Born on March 7, 1968 to Al and Donna (Anderson) Longo in Melrose Mass., Gary attended Bristol schools and graduated from Bristol High School in 1986. He also attended The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he studied videography.  During his high school years he enjoyed being the lead vocalist for the local metal band “Vile Gypsy” as Gary Vile. Gary enjoyed a career as a carpet installer, branching out with his own business, Gary Longo Carpet Installations, until his illness in 2009.

Points of pride throughout his life were the development of his unique pen and ink drawing style with many of his pieces of art being found in various homes in Bristol County and in Maine. He relished, the numerous poetry jams at which he read his original works, from Boston to New York, for the enjoyment of others.  Lastly, Gary always felt blessed that he was able to survive the California earthquake of 1989.

During his too brief time among us, Gary touched so many lives it would be impossible to recount them all here.  Those who will miss him and whom he loved dearly, are his parents Al and Donna of Springfield, Maine; his loving wife Tanya of New Bedford, their two daughters Tuesday Rivard and Lavender Bourque, a brother Charles Longo Sr., his sister Mary Longo, both of Bristol, two nephews Charles Longo, Jr. of Bangor Maine and Laufton Longo of Pittsburgh, Penn. He left behind many aunts, uncles and cousins throughout New England.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held Sunday, September 23rd at noon, at the Chapel by the Sea in Colt State Park so that we may all say good-bye to our remarkable young man. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Gary Longo Fund at People’s Credit Union.
