Gallery: East Providence Police host annual Night Out event

EAST PROVIDENCE — The fifth annual East Providence Community Police Division's "National Night Out" event took place on and around the grounds of the Senior Center Tuesday evening, Aug. 5.

The "Night Out" is a way for law enforcement and public safety personnel to interact with members of the community in a convivial atmosphere. It is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, child identification and other anti-crime efforts. Target Department Store is the national sponsor of the event and locally as well along with the East Providence Citizens Police Academy alumni.

East Providence Post and photographer Tim Marshall chronicled the event in the pictures below.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
