Barrington police charged two Barrington men with simple assault or battery after they allegedly beat up another Barrington man late Saturday night, April 20 at the Democratic Club on Roffee Street.

Police received a call at about 11:30 p.m. alerting the dispatcher to an alleged assault at the club. Officers responded and spoke with the alleged victim, who had visible injuries. The alleged victim, a 52-year-old Barrington resident, said he went to the Democratic Club to speak to Gary Munroe, 50, of 246 Sowams Road, when Grady Wojcik, 50, of 20 Lake Ave., approached him and started yelling at him to leave Mr. Munroe alone.

The alleged victim claims that Mr. Wojcik then scratched him and Mr. Munroe punched him in the face. He said both men then started punching him. Other patrons at the bar broke up the fight.

Officers spoke to Mr. Wojcik and Mr. Munroe, who were initially reluctant to speak, but eventually said the victim started the altercation. Police later charged Mr. Munroe and Mr. Wojcik with simple assault or battery.
