Everyone in Portsmouth should have power by tonight

PORTSMOUTH — Here's the latest from the Portsmouth Emergency Management Agency:

"Additional power company crews have arrived in Portsmouth and are working to restore electric power to the 297 Portsmouth customers still without power. Power should be restored to Riverside and nearby streets in Island Park by 2 p.m. today. Every customer in Portsmouth should have their power restored no later than 11 p.m. this evening.

"Debris removal plans are underway to address the large volume of fallen trees and branches on the ground. Debris removal can commence only after the current situation is stabilized and the snow pack is gone or greatly diminished. Any debris that is creating an immediate hazard should be reported to the Public Works department at 683-0362 or the Portsmouth Fire department at 683-1200."

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
