Estelle T. Denault


Estelle Therese (Cardinal) Denault 83, of Davenport, Fla. and formerly of Middletown and Warren, R.I., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City, Fla. For 59 years she was the loving wife of the late Louis E. Denault Jr.

Born in Montreal, Canada on Oct. 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Eudore Cardinal and Emma (Pristas) Cardinal.

As a stay at home mom she taught us all the meaning of love and the values of life – truth and honesty.  She was the co-proprietor of the Little Angus Restaurant in the '60s, and owner and teacher of Estelle Ceramics.  In their later years Estelle and Louie enjoyed summers in York Beach, Maine, and RV traveling around the country, hence E.T.C. - Estelle’s Traveling Crafts.  They then settled in Florida.

Mom is survived by her daughters, Denise Cordeiro (John) of Middletown, Karen Oakley (Chet) of Portsmouth andd Suzanne Spear (Bob) of Warren; her son, Paul Denault (Lily) of Winter Park, Fla.; and her sister, Claudette Nunes of Middletown.  Also surviving Meme are her grandchildren, Geoffrey Pelletier, Emily Cordeiro, Kristin Cordeiro, Jason Oakley, Benjamin Spear, Keelyn Spear, Brandon Spear, and Joshua Denault; her great-grandchildren, Kayley Cordeiro and Kayden Berard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Shirleyann Cardinal.

Her service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown.  Burial for Estelle and Louie will be at St. Columba’s Cemetery, Middletown, following the service.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
