Emma Jane Reuther, 75, Tiverton

Emma Jane “Chickie” (McLoughlin) Reuther, 75, of Tiverton, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at home after a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband of 50 years, George C. Reuther, and her family.

Jane was born on November 9, 1937, in Mineola, N.Y., the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Jensen) McLoughlin of Glenwood Landing, N.Y.

She was a 1959 graduate of the Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing. In the 1970’s, after the death of her daughter, Kathleen Marie, she served as the Rhode Island outreach coordinator for the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Outreach Program for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. She provided support to grieving families of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Prior to her retirement in 1998, she was the charge nurse at the Truesdale Ambulatory Clinic, Fall River, for 22 years.

She is survived by her son, George R. Reuther of Swansea, Mass., and his children, Emilie J., Erik G. and Owen T.; and her daughter, Jane E. Bresko of Ft. Benning, Ga., and her husband LTC Christopher Bresko, USA, and their children, Kathleen M. and Elizabeth M.

Anyone who knew Jane knew that she enjoyed her summers sailing around Narragansett Bay and the Islands, spending time in her garden, traveling and going to coffee “with the ladies."

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 26,  from 5-8 .m.m in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.

Her funeral will be  Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 9 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by burial at 10 a.m. in St. Columba Cemetery Chapel, Brown’s Lane, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
