Emily Camara, 100, Bristol

Emily (Borges) Camara, 100, of Bay View Avenue, passed away on March 25, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Manor. She was the wife of the late Fred Camara.  

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Maria (Silvia) Borges.

She is survived by her children, Frederick Camara and his wife Jorene of Duxbury, Mass., Kenneth Camara and his wife Joyce of Oxford, Ala., and Elizabeth Camara Molloy and her husband Robert of Bristol, with whom she resided; grandchildren Keith Camara, Brian Camara, David Camara, Jason Camara, Nathan Camara, Luke Camara, Seth Camara, Eli Camara, Rachel Funnell, Lisa Camara, Leslie Smith; and great grandchildren Jake, Emily, Freddy, Nash, Harper, Teresa, Mary Kate, Benjamin, Carson, Elli, Mayer, Kaela, Karis, Olivia Joy, Lauren, Luciano and Landan. 

She was the sister of the late Josephine Barrett, Margaret Botelho, Carolyn Pelland, Mary Almeida and John, Joseph, Anthony and George Borges. She was also the aunt of late Mary Machado, and she leaves many other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mrs. Camara was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and received a Bachelor's degree in education from Rhode Island College. In 1973, she received a Life Certificate in Special Education and retired in 1976 after 33 years of teaching in the Bristol School Department.

She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Church and a former President of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was a member of the RI Retired Teachers Association, East Bay Retired Teachers Association, Friends of Linden Place, Saving Blithewold, Bristol Art Museum and the AARP/National Retired Teachers Association.

Her funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 10 a.m., from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bristol. Calling hours are Friday, 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
