Ellen V. Holder, 66, formerly of Barrington

Ellen V. Holder, 66, formerly of Maple Avenue, died peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of David P. Holder.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Albert and Victoria Osterholm, she lived in Barrington for 23 years and Narraganset for 18 years.

Ellen was a former communicant of Holy Angels Church and a former Girl Scout Leader. She was a volunteer at the East Providence Animal Shelter, Barrington School Library and Meals on Wheels.

Besides her husband of 47 years, she is survived by her children, Alicia Jones of Pawtucket, Jessica Sousa and her husband Jason of Barrington, Paul D. Holder of Narragansett and Tara Holder of Barrington; a grandson, Jason Sousa of Barrington; a sister, Laura Bedard of Fort Myers, Fla.; a half-sister, Laurie of Virginia and several nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Albert and Matthais Osterholm.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 14, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington at 10 a.m. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
