Edmund Medeiros, 90, Westport

Edmund Medeiros, 90, of Westport, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was the husband of Helena N. (Niemiec) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alfred and Mary (Amaral) Medeiros, he raised his family in Barrington prior to moving to Westport over 30 years ago.  
A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the Navy.  
Edmund began his teaching career in Westport then continued his teaching profession in Rhode Island for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Star of the East A.F. & A.M. and the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M.  
Mr. Medeiros enjoyed teaching, gardening, traveling, making wine and being on the river.  He also loved animals and was a skilled woodworker.
Including his wife, survivors include a daughter, Pamela M. Skammels and her husband Jack of Westport; three grandchildren, Nicholas A. Stone, Jessica L. Skammels and Mia K. Skammels; and a son-in-law, Randall Stone.  He was then father of the late Karyn A. Stone.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.
