PORTSMOUTH — More than 50 people were staring into the sun outside the Portsmouth Free Public Library for today’s partial solar eclipse.

They did it safely, however, with library staff members handing out a few special eclipse glasses to share and helping patrons young and old build their own pinhole viewers.

Although the library announced the 2 p.m. event on its Facebook page only six days earlier, more than 50 people showed up to witness the celestial phenomenon.

Scroll through our gallery above of photos from the library’s eclipse viewing.
