East Providence to host Seasonal Flu, Pertussis, and Pneumonia Vaccination Clinic

Posted

EAST PROVIDENCE —  The City of East Providence will team with the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Wellness Company to hold a Vaccination Clinic on Monday, Dec. 3.

The Clinic will be held at Riverside Middle School at 179 Forbes Street between 4 to 7 p.m. The regular Seasonal Flu vaccine will be offered for those aged 6 months and older who have not received it yet this season.

Also available will be the “Tdap” (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine for anyone 11 years of age and older. Anyone who is close contact with an infant should get a Tdap shot if they haven’t been immunized in the past five years, and all adults are encouraged to receive Tdap once in their lifetime. Note: Pregnant women must be at least 20 weeks into their pregnancies to receive the Tdap vaccine.

The Pneumococcal Vaccine, which protects against pneumonia, will also be offered for adults age 19 and older. This is particularly recommended for smokers and for those who have athsma.

There is no charge for the vaccination. Anyone who is insured should bring his or her insurance card. However, no one will be turned away for a lack of health insurance. You do not have to be an East Providence resident to come to the clinic.

If you have any questions about the seasonal flu, Tdap, or pneumonia vaccines, contact the Rhode Island Department of Health at (401) 222-5960.
