East Providence sets Labor Day trash collection changes


EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Public Works Department, Recycling/Refuse Division announces that all household refuse and yard waste collections next week will be delayed one day for the reminder of the week.

Regularly Monday collections will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, Tuesday will be Wednesday, Wednesday will be Thursday, Thursday will be Friday and Friday will be collected on Saturday. This new holiday policy went into effect on Sept. 2.

Due to the new recycling cart collection beginning the week of Sept. 9, there will be no recycling collection the week of Sept. 2 to 7.  Regular Monday collection for rubbish, recycling in new carts only and yard waste will resume on Monday, Sept. 9.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
