East Providence resident Cuartas vies for Miss Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE — City resident Victoria Cuartas, of Riverside, will be one of the women vying for the title of Miss Rhode Island-Miss America during the local version of the pageant Saturday evening, June 14, at Rhode Island College's Roberts Auditorium.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Pageant tickets are available at the RIC box office by calling 401-456-8144 or online at www.ric.edu/pfa/orderinfo.php. Tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door. Tickets for students, with identification, are $25.

Miss Cuartas has held the title of Miss Providence College. Among her achievements while a student at PC, through the school's Global Studies Department, she recently participated in the Amizade Global Service-Learning Program in Brazil. She spent six days assisting a team of international doctors who provided health services to local communities along the Tapagós River.

The winner of the Miss Rhode Island pageant will represent the state at the 2015 Miss America pageant at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on September 14.
