East Providence native Scala signs to skate for Syracuse women’s hockey

EAST PROVIDENCE — Elizabeth “Biz” Scala, of Rumford, will be graduating in June from the National Sports Academy (NSA) in Lake Placid, NY., and the city native has committed to play Division I college hockey beginning next winter at Syracuse University.

 

Ms. Scala is a forward. In two years at NSA has scored 69 goals and 67 assists in 123 games. NSA plays in the Junior Women’s Hockey League, which consists of six teams from the United States and six teams from Canada.

NSA finished in third place in the JWHL playoffs, which were held recently in North Dakota. In the classroom, Ms. Scala has been a high honor student throughout her two years at NSA.

In 2008-2009 season, she was the MVP of the R.I. Division I playoffs as a freshman when Bay View beat Mount St Charles for the state championship. Her sister, Alexa, a junior, currently plays for the Bay View hockey team.
