EAST PROVIDENCE — A city man has been arrested on murder charges following an alleged domestic violence incident on Warren Avenue Saturday afternoon, May 20.

East Providence Police said Allen J. Hanson, 31, of 85 Warren Ave. in city, was charged with Domestic 1st Degree Murder following the death of Jennifer Silva, 41, also of 85 Warren Ave.

According to EPPD Detective Lieutenant Raymond Blinn, the alleged events occurred at approximately 4 a.m. Saturday morning. It was then EPPD received a 911 call of a woman injured after being struck by a motor vehicle. Officers responded quickly to the scene and located a female victim, who had significant trauma and was unresponsive, in the rear parking lot of 85 Warren Ave. Officers immediately began first aid until East Providence Fire Department personnel arrived and took over rendering aid. The female was transported to R.I. Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Lt. Blinn said officers on scene had located Mr. Hanson next to the female and he identified her as his girlfriend. He informed them that her injuries were due to her being struck by a motor vehicle, which was not consistent with evidence located on the scene.

EPPD Detectives continued the investigation, which resulted in the determination that the victim’s injuries were not the result of a motor vehicle striking her, but were a direct result of a domestic violence altercation between Mr. Hanson and the victim. -*-

Hanson will be arraigned on Domestic 1st Degree Murder charges on Monday in District Court. An autopsy on Ms. Silva will also be performed by the R.I. Medical Examiner’s office on Monday.
