East Providence High girls' volleyball bests LaSalle

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls' volleyball team fended off rival LaSalle Academy Wednesday night, Oct. 16, to defeat the Rams, 3-2, in a Division I-North encounter.

The Townies improved to 7-5 in the I-North standings following the 25-23, 22-25, 26-28, 25-20, 15-13 win.

EPHS head coach Alex Butler wrote in his post-match blog entry, "Every match is important down the stretch and the Townies didn't play like a team hungry for the win and with a sense of urgency."

E.P. had 19 service errors to go along with 45 ball handling/hitting/blocking errors. "That is far too many points to give teams," Coach Butler added.

Cassia Spivey had a monster night for the locals with 35 assists, 11 digs, 3 aces and 2 kills.  Casey Traverse had a game-high 24 digs. East Providence travels to Providence for a date opposite I-North leading Classical (9-3) Friday night, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
