East Providence fire chief acknowledges staff for storm work

To the editor,

This past weekend members of the department experienced some of the greatest challenges the East Providence Fire Department has faced in many years.

The combination of blizzard-like weather conditions, long continuous hours, coupled with a very high call/response volume including two structure fires within an eight hour period, required members of the department to unselfishly serve the citizens of the city.

Words cannot express the true dedication that each member displayed during the past weekend. Each and every member who worked went over and above what any fire chief would expect or hope for.

I personally would like to thank all of them for their hard work and perseverance. Great job!

Oscar M. Elmasian

Acting EPFD Chief

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
