East Providence Chamber seeks committee volunteers

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers for its various committees. The Chamber's committees support the organization's activities and events throughout the year.

Typically, the committees meet once a month or as needed at the Chamber office (or elsewhere as noted.) Soon, the committees will be meeting for the first time this year.

Business owners, executives and/or employees of member businesses are welcome to serve on a committee. If you are interested, please contact the Chamber office at 401-438-1212.

The committees, chairpersons and upcoming meeting dates are as follows:

  • Economic Development & Government Affairs Committee: Phil Tirrell, chairman; Meeting Date: Friday, Feb.  21; noon - 1 p.m.;  Location: East Providence Area Chamber Office, 1011 Waterman Ave.
  • Golf Committee - Dean Martins, chairman; Meeting Date: Wednesday, Feb.  12; noon - 1 p.m.;  Location: Metacomet Country Club, 500 Veterans Memorial Pkwy.
  • Touch-A-Truck Committee: Arthur Dwyer, chairman; Meeting Date: Thursday, Feb.  20; noon - 1 p.m.;  Location: East Providence Area Chamber Office, 1011 Waterman Ave.
  • Membership Committee: Harold Daigneau, chairman; Meeting Date: Thursday, Feb.  27; noon - 1 p.m.;  Location: East Providence Area Chamber Office, 1011 Waterman Ave.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
