East Providence Central Stars fall in District 2 finale

PORTSMOUTH — The host Portsmouth Little League 9-10 Major Baseball Division All-Stars completed their unbeaten run to the District 2 tournament championship Saturday night, July 12, with a 13-0 victory over East Providence Central.

E.P. Central finished the event with a 3-2 record. The locals began the tournament with an 11-0 win over neighboring Rumford then lost to the same Portsmouth team 17-10. Into the losers' bracket, Central beat Bristol, 18-2, then advanced to the championship round with a 3-1 win over Tiverton.

For Portsmouth, it went 3-0 en route to the title, following up its first win over Central with a 16-0 victory over Tiverton before beating the East Providence side in a rematch for the championship.
