East Bay girls part of championship rowing team

Some local girls played key roles in the top place finishes for Bay View's crew teams at the recent New England High School Regional Championships, which were held in Worcester, Mass.

Barrington's Erin O'Connell and Maddy Chrupcala, and Bristol's Diana Lucey, Erin Devin and Katie Lowis rowed for the varsity and junior varsity teams at Bay View in East Providence.

Bay View's varsity team, which included Lucey, O'Connell and Lowis, finished third at the regionals, while Chrupcala, Devin and Lowis also helped the junior varsity team win its event.

Bay View also raced against some of the top club and high school teams in the country at the prestigious Head of the Charles event in Boston recently. Bay View's boat finished 22nd out of a field of 85 teams. The finish automatically qualified the team for an invitation to next year's Head of the Charles.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
