Drumming out 'Songs of Freedom' in Portsmouth

Posted

PORTSMOUTH — On Saturday Common Fence Music presented “Songs of Freedom,” a free interactive workshop for kids and their families with Zili Misik, an all-female band.

Participants sang, clapped, drummed and danced to Haitian rhythms and songs, including Ibo, the dance of freedom.

The program was funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies.
