Dr. Laurent Gousie, 79, of Bristol


Dr. Laurent Gousie, 79, of Bristol died Thursday May 9, 2013 at Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Marie A. Gousie (Rauh), to whom he was married to for 49 years, and the father of Michael B. Gousie of Massachusetts.

Dr. Gousie was a longtime resident of Pawtucket and currently lived in Bristol.

He was a professor of German and French and an administrator at Providence College for over 50 years.

Dr. Gousie served in the U.S. Army for over 35 years, serving during the Korean War. After being stationed in Germany for three years, he continued in the Army Reserves for the remainder of his military career, attaining the rank of Colonel.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where the family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2013. Funeral will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013  at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, Main Street, Warren.  Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. www.wjsmithfh.com
