Douglas B. Dion Jr., 72, of Naples, Flor.

Douglas B. Dion Jr., beloved husband of Bette (Gardiner) Dion, died at home on Thanksgiving Day in Naples, Flor. after a long illness.  Born in Westerly, RI on August 4, 1940, he was the son of the late Douglas B. Sr. and Charlotte (Patterson) Dion and brother of the late David A. Dion, he is survived by his three children:  Dawn M. Dion of Hopkinton, RI;  Douglas B. Dion III of Smithfield, RI; and Craig B. Dion of Rehoboth, MA; three step-children:  Linda Hathaway of Bristol, RI; Robert Hathaway of Portsmouth, RI; and Tracy Hathaway of Epping, NH; six grandchildren and one step-grandchild.  He is also survived by a brother, Norman P. Dion of Westerly, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

It was Doug’s desire that family and friends join together to remember the times they all shared with him. Therefore, there will be a gathering to celebrate Doug’s life at The Shelter Harbor Inn in Westerly on Sunday, December 16th at 2 p.m. The funeral will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
