Dorothy A. Korkuc, 89, Riverside


Dorothy A. (Beagen) Korkuc, 89, of Holland Avenue, Riverside, died on July 31, 2013. She was the wife of Edmund T. Korkuc.

Dorothy was a communicant of St. Brendan Church.  She was a 45 year cancer survivor who devoted her life to her children and family.

Besides her husband of 60 years, she is survived by two daughters; Deborah A. Giordano and her husband Sabatino of West Greenwich and Donna M. Niederberger and her husband David of Riverside, a son; Robert E. Korkuc and his wife Martha of Amherst, NH, a brother; Daniel Beagan of Cranston and six loving grandchildren; Sabatino “Joey”, Melanie Dorothy, Michael, Megan, Jennifer and Ryan.

She was the sister of the late Rev. James Beagen CSSP, Sr. Mary John Leonard SSND, John, Thomas and Matthew Beagen.

Her funeral was held on Saturday, Aug. 3, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside.  Burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
