Wayne Gablinbske, chairman of the Democrat Representative Disctrict 68 Committee, the legal entity that has the power to endorse the Democrat candidate for District 68, has voted unanimously to ask for the resignation of District 68 Representative-Elect Laufton Ascencao.
“In light of the serious and substantiated charges against Mr. Ascencao, relative to the deceit, deception and dishonor that he has brought upon the Democrat Warren Town Council candidates and the voters of District 68, he should immediately resign from the House of Representatives and another election be held as soon as possible,” Mr. Gablinske said.
Mr Gablinske continued: “During the campaign, it became rather obvious that Rep.-elect Ascencao was lying about a number of things in his past, either through omission or commission, as pointedly asked by his opponent, Libertarian candidate Bill Hunt. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and this fire has spread upon the voters of District 68 and they deserve better.”
“These transgressions of character, ethics, and possible federal criminality of forgery, should be investigated by the local and/or state police, and we call on them to act in the best interest of the residents of District 68, as well as the residents of Bristol and all of Rhode Island.
“Further, we ask that the former federal prosecutor in Rhode Island and now Attorney General-elect Peter Neronha, who was highly successful in prosecuting public corruption cases, involve himself in this investigation.”
The District Committee had endorsed former Bristol Town Councilman Andy Tyska as the Democrat candidate for District 68. The members include Wayne Gablinske, Joe Bruno, Pat Raiola, Chris Velleca and Anthony Janaurio.
