David L. Goglia, 91, Bristol


Mr. David L. Goglia, age 91, of Peck Avenue, Bristol, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Silver Creek Manor Nursing Home, Bristol, He was the husband of the late Ruth N. (Speakman) Goglia. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident he was a son of the late Egista D. and Giuseppina (Cariglia) Goglia.

He worked in the produce department for the former First National Food Store formerly in Bristol he also worked for the Bristol police as a reserve officer and Bristol harbor patrol for 22 years along with Raymond Construction and the former JT O'Connell formerly in Bristol.  David was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy during WW II.  He was a life member of the Bristol County Elks #1860 and the Anthony C. Almeida Post # 237 V.F.W.  David played High School Football, baseball under Coach Huston, Class C. Football Championship 1940, YMCA Baseball Championship under Coach Marty Biancuzzo, Colonial League Football Championship 1947, and also played baseball for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and St. Elizabeth's in the Twilight League.

He is survived by a son, David L. Goglia, Jr., of Bristol, a sister, Felicia J. McMahon of Bristol and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Goglia of Bristol.  Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael H. Goglia and a brother,  Egista Goglia.

Funeral services and burial are private.  Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI  02809.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home of Bristol.  For online condolences and shared memories go to www.sansonefuneralhome.com.
