David A. McKivergan died February 20, 2018, at his home in Rochester, NH. Despite his five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, he never lost his good humor, graciousness, and appreciative nature. He was born September 23, 1933, in Providence, RI.

David was a life-long educator, including many years in Little Compton and in Rumford, Maine.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Simmons McKivergan. He leaves his three daughters, Anne McKivergan of Strafford, NH, Laurel (Robert) Capron of East Providence, and Deborah (Peter) Dunbar of Champlain, NY, and his daughter-in-law Gretchen McKivergan of Salisbury, NC. He also leaves two grandchildren, Samuel Capron of East Providence and Sydney Capron of Malden, Mass. He was pre-deceased by his son, David A. McKivergan Jr. in 2000.

In his retirement, he enjoyed his daily paper, birdwatching from the porch, listening to the ocean, and most especially following the Boston Red Sox.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
