Daniel De Melo, 42, Bristol



Daniel De MeloDaniel De Melo, 42, of Goulart Avenue in Bristol, passed away on July 18, 2013.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Louis and Sarah (Carvalho) De Melo and the father of Daniel De Melo Jr., Logan De Melo and the late Madison Lee De Melo.

He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and was employed by Carlos Braz Construction.

His funeral services were held July 24, 2013 from the George Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Richard Narciso at St. Elizabeth Church. Liturgical readings were by Debby Arruda and the offertory gifts were presented by Daniel De Melo Jr., Louis De Melo and Sarah De Melo. Burial followed in North Burial Ground.  Serving as pallbearers were Carlos Braz, Paul Braz, Chris De Sousa, Joe Viveiros, Victor Da Rosa and Paul Arruda.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
