Dale S. Thomas, 94, Westport

Dale Stephen Thomas, 94, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. Born in Diamond, Ohio, son of the late Charles H. and Alta J. (Hollister) Thomas, he resided in Westport for many years.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Thomas) Bauman and Frances Andruszkiewicz of Westport and Boston; his son, Jefferson Thomas and Barbara Ducharme of Nahant; his grandson, David Bauman and Kimberly Paige of Maine; his beloved sister, Margaret (Thomas) Smith of Ravenna, Ohio, as well as her daughter Sherill Buitrago, and many nieces and nephews. Dale was the brother of the late Harold, Kenneth, Eldon, Maxine, Wayne and Robert Thomas.

A graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, July 13, at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Westport River Watershed Alliance, 1151 Main Rd., Westport, MA 02790 or Westport Police RUOK Program: Gift Account, 818 Main Rd., Westport, MA 02790.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
