Correction: DEM has not authorized Pond View reopening

Posted

PROVIDENCE — In an earlier post Friday, May 3, The East Providence Post mistakenly published an outdated press release issued by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management in regards to the proposed reopening of the controversial Pond View on Dexter Road in Rumford.

The DEM did recently enter into a contractual agreement with the owner of the property, Ken Foley, to attend to the clean up of the site. That news received a lukewarm reception from local residents and city officials. Mr. Foley, including his time as an operator at Pond View, has more often than not been at odds with area land owners, especially, throughout the process.

The DEM, however, did not authorize the site to return to operational status at this time. The Post greatly regrets its error on this matter.
