Clare P. Boyd, 100, Westport

Clare P. (O'Toole) Boyd, 100, of Westport, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Catholic Memorial Home. She was the wife of the late John C. Boyd.

Mrs. Boyd was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late John L. and Harriet A. (Hanlon) O'Toole, and had resided in Westport since 1976. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport.

Survivors include her three daughters, Susan Janus of Rhode Island, Maureen McCullough of Virginia and Marilyn Thomson of Montana; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late John C. Boyd Jr, grandmother of the late Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Thomson and John C. "Jack" Boyd III, and sister of the late Lawrence O'Toole, Eileen Irwin, Mary Widell and Josephine Smith.

Her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Wednesday, October 24, at 10 a.m. St. John the Baptist Church, 945 Main Road, Westport.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport, immediately following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
