Catherine E. Nasser, Portsmouth

Catherine “Kay” E. (Riegel) Nasser of Portsmouth, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Silver Creek Nursing Home in Bristol. She was the wife of John E. Nasser Jr. Born on March 9, 1928, in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Maude (Sisson) Riegel. Kay graduated from Rogers High School and worked as a retail sales clerk for many years at W.T. Grant’s and J.J. Newberry’s. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and attending concerts. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband of 68 years, she is survived by her children, Thomas Nasser of Tiverton, John Nasser of Middletown, and Nancy Lanier of Mt. Dora, Fla.; her brothers, Robert Riegel of Newport, and Herbert Riegel of Middletown; seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, and her dog, Jene. She was predeceased by her brothers, Milton, Harold, Raymond, Charles and William Riegel. Her funeral services will be private. Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
