Carol Holmes, 82, Bristol
Carol (Connelly) Holmes, 82, formerly of 149 Hopeworth Ave., Bristol (Hopeworth Estates), died peacefully Tuesday, July 29, at the Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Holmes, who preceded her in death 1991.
Born in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Bristol resident for many years, she was a daughter of the late Vincent J. and Ruth (Sullivan) Connelly. Mrs. Holmes was an graduate of Clarke College in Dubuque in 1954 with a bachelor's of arts degree, and then she attended St. Louis University Medical School of St. Louis, MO, where she received her certification as an registered dietician in 1955. She worked at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence as a registered dietician for many years, retiring in 1987. Following her retirement, she was a devoted caregiver for private families in the Bristol area.
Mrs. Holmes was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol. She was a former member of the Bristol Substance Abuse Task Force and a volunteer for a number of years at Coggeshall Farm in Bristol. She was a former den mother for the Cub Scouts for a number of years.
She is survived by three sons, Michael J. Holmes (Susan) of Edina, Minnesota, R. Scott Holmes (Sharon) of Portsmouth, John T. Holmes (Kristen), Bristol; nine grandchildren, Richard S. Holmes, Jr., Lauren M., Kathryn M., Charles M., Daniel J., Michael R., Matthew J., Haley E. and Thomas J. Holmes; and a brother, Mark V. Connelly, M.D. (Jeanne) of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lois A. Connelly.
Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug/ 6, at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol.
