Carol A. Major, 61, Riverside

Carol A. Major, 61, of Thurston Street, Riverside, died unexpectedly on August 29, 2013. Born in Providence, a loving daughter of William A. and Madeline G. (O’Malley) Major of Riverside, she was a lifelong resident of Riverside.

Carol was a registered nurse for 26 years.  She also was a clerk at the Cherry & Webb, Filenes and Macy’s Department stores for many years.  She was a graduate of CCRI and Salve Regina University.

Carol was a communicant of St. Brendan Church.  She was devoted to her family and also enjoyed spending time with her loving nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister; Marguerite L. Major of Riverside, three brothers; Daniel T. Major of Riverside, George E. Major of Riverside and William D. Major of Seekonk, and nieces and nephews; Jessica, Melissa, Kristen, Christopher, Daniel, Megan and Mattisen Major and Abbey Haynes.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. www.wrwatsonfuneralhome.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
