Carl L. Romano, 96, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island. He was the husband of the late Helen (Haber) Romano.

Born in Bristol, RI, a son of the late Luigi and the late Nancy (DeRiso) Romano, he was a longtime resident of Warren. He was a United States Merchant Marine veteran, having served during World War II.

Mr. Romano leaves his sister, Nancy Augustine of Hawaii. He was the brother of the late Domenic, Al, John and Steve Romano, Regina Reeves, Ann Abbenante, Lucy Olsen and Helen Lima.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St., Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
