Bristol’s Pitch, Hit & Run skills competition is Friday


The Bristol Department of Parks & Recreation will host a local Pitch, Hit & Run Major League Baseball-sponsored skills competition for boys and girls age 7 to 14 on Friday, April 26.

The event will be held on the men’s softball field at the Bristol Sports Complex at the Town Beach. The competition will begin at 5:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 5. The rain date is Friday, May 3, same time, same place.

This is the fourth year of the Girls Softball Division (girls must compete in the softball division and boys must compete in the hardball division).

The event is free and consists of batting, throwing and base running. There are four age groups — 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 (age as of July 17, 2013). Call 253-1611 for more information.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
