Bristol Warren students cook up dishes for needy
Just before Thanksgiving, students in the Bristol Warren elementary schools cooked up pies, casseroles and other delicious dishes to be given to the Bristol Good Neighbors soup kitchen.
Students who attend the district's COZ after school program at Colt Andrews, Rockwell, Hugh Cole and Guiteras schools cooked up the menu items as part of their after school activities. On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the disshes from all the schools were taken to Colt Andrews school and the children there carried the food down Hope Street to the soup kitchen.
"We fulfill so many needs that sometimes we fall short," Arthur Connelly, a soup kitchen volunteer told the students. "That's where you guys come in. We appreciate everything you do."
Besides the cooked meals that volunteers served to diners, Bristol Good Neighbors gave away 125 bags of food for Thanksgiving Day meals.
"It means a lot to people who need help. That's what you guys did today," Mr. Connelly said.
