Bristol senior signs Letter of Intent for Crew

Chloe Watson of Bristol, a senior at Bay View Academy and a member of the Bengals crew team, signed a National Letter of Intent to row at the University of Rhode Island. This fall, she recorded a season’s best and personal record of 20:47.0 in the 5K. Chloe played a significant role in helping Bay View qualify for the 54th Head of the Charles Regatta — the largest two-day rowing event in the world.

She also finished in the top half of junior rowers at CRASH-B Sprints. Chloe is an outstanding student and an accomplished violinist. Her musical accolades include bronze 2016 in Violin Trio at Solo and Ensemble, silver 2017 in Violin Duet at Solo and Ensemble and gold 2017 in Violin Solo at Solo and Ensemble.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
