Bristol Police: Stolen truck, wandering goats, Fourth of July shenanigans

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between July 3 and July 9:

Monday, July 3

After a passer-by flagged them down, police investigated a man sleeping in his car on Hope Street with the engine running around 7:30 a.m. Officers spoke with the driver and found no issues.

Police responded to a car crash at Metacom and Gooding avenues just after 9 a.m. One person was brought to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River after complaining of neck pain.

A resident complained of a tent being erected on the new Andrew McKenna Park on Hope Street. There was no issue; the property owner permitted the tent.

Police broke up a house party on Metacom Avenue at 4:20 p.m.

Reports indicated people were removing the “No Parking” signs on Hope Street in preparation for the Fourth of July Parade, but police found the signs intact.

Police assisted with a small brush fire at Mt. Hope High School at 8:30 p.m. It was quickly extinguished.

Tuesday, July 4

Officers responded to noise, fireworks and suspicious person complaints in the wee hours of July 4 all over town.

Officers helped an intoxicated woman at Hope and Thames streets around 1:30 a.m. She was treated by rescue personnel.

A group of revelers reportedly tore down a street sign on Thames Street just before 2 a.m. before fleeing in a gray Nissan.

Police dispersed a large group of people that had formed on Ansonia Avenue at 2 a.m. as the Fourth of July party raged through the night.

Three men were reportedly trying to open random car doors on Mt. Hope Avenue around 6 a.m. Police investigated but made no arrest.

Two men were soliciting along the parade route at Thames and Hope streets at 9 a.m. without the proper permits from the town. Police dispersed the men.

A car was reportedly vandalized at Hope and Washington streets at 10:30 a.m.

A group of men was reportedly loitering at Hope and Frankling streets, making rude comments to women who were passing by around 5:30 p.m.

Fireworks and noise complaints kept officers busy throughout the night all over town.

Wednesday, July 5

Complaints about noise, fireworks and groups of people loitering on the streets continued throughout the night.

A truck was reportedly stolen from State and Hope streets just before 2 a.m. Bristol, Warren, Barrington, Swansea and Portsmouth Police were all involved in the investigation. The truck was later found in Bristol, and the investigation continues.

Two cars were broken into between 9:30 and 10 a.m. on Magnolia Street and Hilltop Street. In both cases, it appears nothing was stolen.

A bulldog tied to a tire was reportedly walking down Broadcommon Road at 12:30 p.m. Animal control officers could not find the dog.

A flag was reportedly stolen from a home on High Street.
The gazebo on Town Common was vandalized around 1:30 p.m.

Police were called to Sousa Street for the third time in as many days for complaints about neighbors making too much noise just after 10 p.m. In all cases, the complaints were unfounded.

Thursday, July 6

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Metacom Avenue just before 2 a.m., but made no arrest.

A resident complained of a cell phone battery being stolen. Police filed a report.

Friday, July 7

A resident on Seal Island Road reported returning home to find the back door open. Police investigating, finding no problem and determining the open door to be an oversight.

Saturday, July 8

Police intercepted a resident “with suicidal thoughts” who was headed to the Mt. Hope Bridge, according to a friend who called police just before 2 a.m. Officers found the resident and rescue personnel were called for an evaluation.

A boat was reportedly stolen from a dock off Monkey Wrench Lane. The state DEM was advised.

A bicycle was stolen on State Street around 3:30 p.m. Police are investigating.

Sunday, July 9

A resident complained of a man sleeping on a wall on Bradford Street at 1:30 a.m. There was no problem; the man lived in the neighborhood.

A vending machine outside a business on Hope Street was reportedly broken into just before 6:30 a.m.

A group of goats broke free from Coggeshall Farm off Poppasquash Road around 9 a.m. They were quickly contained.

Cars were reportedly racing up and down Tower Street around 2 p.m. They were gone when officers arrived.
