Bristol Police: Playground vandalism, runaway car, party at the bridge

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between April 10 and April 16:

Monday, April 10

A truck was broken into on Metacom Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Nothing was reported missing, but the truck’s stereo was damaged.

Police responded to an illegal dumping complaint on Broadcommon Road at 10 a.m.

Two juveniles were reportedly arguing loudly on Holly Lane at 4 p.m. There was no issue; one of the juvenile’s mothers took care of the problem.

A resident on Hope Street complained about a neighbor’s paint ball course set up in the backyard. The course was not in use when officers arrived.

Tuesday, April 11

Police responded to another illegal dumping complaint, this time on Ballou Boulevard at 7 a.m.

A car was reportedly vandalized on Hope Street around 10:30 a.m. Police filed a reportm but no arrest was made.

A driver apparently forgot to apply the parking break while shopping at Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue. The unmanned car rolled out of its parking space, but did not appear to hit anything or anyone. The car’s owner was paged.

A resident on Narrows Road complained of a neighbor’s open burning around 3 p.m. There was no issue; the fire was in an enclosed pit.

A large truck reportedly hit an overhanging branch and pulled it onto Malden Street around 3:30 p.m. the town Department of Public Works responded.

Two women reportedly stole a pint bottle of liquor from a liquor store on Hope Street around 10 p.m. Police filed a report.

Wednesday, April 12

A resident at Wood and Perry streets complained of junk and abandoned cars parked in the lot across the street. There was no issue; both cars registered and legally parked.

Police responded to a dispute on Dewolf Avenue at 2:30 p.m. between a cab driver and a passenger, reportedly over the fare. The fee was paid when police arrived.

Officers responded to reports of a disobedient child in the backyard of a home on Sunset Road at 8:30 p.m. The child had left on foot, and was found at the bottom of Gibson Road. Police brought the juvenile back to his Sunset Road home.

Thursday, April 13

Police assisted with a neighbor dispute over a damaged fence on Easterbrooks Avenue. The neighbors opted to handle the situation themselves.

Two juveniles were arrested and charged with vandalism after allegedly spray painting the basketball court and playground at Veterans Memorial Park on Wood Street around 3:30 p.m.
Police confiscated a “suspicious small baggie” a group of students found at Colt Andrews School on Hope Street around 4 p.m.

A young woman was reportedly walking in the middle of Hope Street at 11:30 p.m.

Friday, April 14

Police responded to complaints of a loud party in the backyard of a home on Washington Street just before 1 a.m. Police filed a report.

Immediately after, officers were called to the Mt. Hope Bridge for reports of a party on the island before the bridge. Officers spoke with two Roger Williams University students, who were not on the bridge, but “were off to the side taking pictures for a class.” Campus security responded.

A dog was hit by a car at Franklin and Magnolia streets at 8 a.m. Animal control officers responded and brought the chow/shepherd mix to the veterinary ER.

A resident on State Street reported spotting an injured squirrel next door to her home around 10 a.m. Animal Control and a local wild life clinic responded, but the squirrel wandered off before they arrived.

An anonymous caller reported a neighbor was smoking pot on the front porch on Bay View Avenue. The report was unfounded.

A juvenile boy was reportedly fighting a juvenile girl on Town Common around 3:30 p.m. The combatants were gone when officers arrived.

Saturday, April 15

A reportedly intoxicated man was walking in the street at Center and West streets. He was brought for treatment at Newport Hospital.

Police assisted with a minor brush fire off Almeida Court.
A resident on Sousa Street called police to report a car was running in front of the house. The car was gone when officers arrived.

Sunday, April 16

A caller reported a man yelling obscenities outside on Hope Street at 10:30 a.m. There was no problem. The man was just talking loudly into his cell phone. He was advised to keep it down.

A coyote was spotted on the baseball field at Naomi and Dartmouth streets around 11 a.m.
