Bristol Police: Assault with dangerous weapon, domestic violence, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between March 13 and March 19:

Monday, March 13

Police assisted with a “disorderly juvenile” who would not get in his mother’s car at Chestnut Street and Sherry Avenue around 3 p.m. The juvenile eventually got in the car.

Police dispersed an intoxicated man from an establishment on Wood Street just after 8 p.m.

Tuesday, March 14

Police were called to a home on Washington Street in which a juvenile male armed with a knife was reportedly threatening family members at 10:30 a.m. The victims were calling police from the home’s bathroom, where they had barricaded themselves. Police responded and arrested the 14-year-old boy, charging him with felony assault with a dangerous weapon and larceny under $1,500. Another juvenile, a 13-year-old, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault. The 14-year-old was brought to the RI Training School.

A window in a home on State Street was reportedly damaged by a plow during last week’s snowstorm.

A tree limb fell on a power line on Union Street during the storm last week. National Grid responded to remove the limb.

Wednesday, March 15

A passerby on Metacom Avenue told an officer someone walked into a building in Bellower Plaza at 7:20 a.m., the morning after part of the shopping center’s roof collapsed and building officials shut the plaza down. Police searched but could find no one in the plaza.

A tree reportedly fell on a car on St. Elizabeth Street around noon.

Police responded to a road rage complaint on Metacom Avenue just after 3 p.m. Two women, driving a Green Kia Soul and a white Nissan Maxima, were reportedly driving recklessly near Annawamscutt Drive. Police did not catch the women in the act, but did catch up with both of them further south on Metacom, issuing warnings.

A resident complained of excessive noise in the cul-de-sac on Sousa Street just before 9 p.m. The report was unfounded, as are many calls that come in regarding neighbor disputes on Sousa Street.

A resident on Sousa Street called again 20 minutes later for the same complaint. Again, police found no disturbance.

Thursday, March 16

A resident walked into the police station a little before 1 p.m. to report that after he had applied for a job online, the company started sending him what he believes are stolen goods. The resident issued a statement and police are investigating.

A caller reported a suspicious man with blonde hair wearing a black jacket and red sneakers walking in the area around Dewolf Avenue at 2 p.m. He was reportedly looking at houses in the neighborhood and taking down notes. The man was gone when police arrived.

John J. Vieira, 35, of 11 San Juan Drive, Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence and disorderly conduct after police were called to Metacom Avenue and Fatima Drive for a report of a fight in progress around 4 p.m.

A man with blonde hair wearing a white button-down shirt was reportedly walking around Prospect Street just before 7 p.m. He said he was from National Grid working in the nieghborhood.

Friday, March 17

A caller on State Street heard a strange noise outside around 3:30 a.m. and asked police to investigate. There was reportedly no problem.

Police responded to reports of a verbal argument on Lindberg Avenue just before 8 a.m. Officers remained on the scene to keep the peace while roadside assistance responded to help one of the women involved who had locked her keys in the car.

A man dialed 911 around 3:30 p.m. from a home on State Street, then hung up without speaking to a dispatcher. Police made contact with the man, who does not speak English, finding him with a self-inflicted laceration across his neck. Rescue personnel brought the reportedly suicidal man to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police helped a reportedly intoxicated man on Wood Street just before 7 p.m., bringing him to his home on Roma Street.

Saturday, March 18

A resident on Elle Street reported having received harassing letters. Police filed a report.

Officers dispersed a group of people taking pictures under the Mt. Hope Bridge at 4:20 p.m.

A woman was reportedly rummaging through the trash of a bank on Hope Street just after 5 p.m. The woman was part of the bank’s cleaning crew.

Sunday, March 19

A man dressed in all black was spotted on Second Street at 4 a.m. Police moved him along.

Personal belongings were reportedly stolen from a home on Berry Lane. Police are investigating.

A caller reported a loud argument on the second floor of an apartment building on State Street. It turned out to be a misunderstanding, just some kids playing.

Jane C. McCaffrey, of Donna Court, Bristol, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic vandalism after police were called to the area for reports of a family disturbance.
