Bridge panel meets Thursday

PROVIDENCE — The Special Legislative Commission to Study the Funding for East Bay Bridges will convene Thursday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m. in Room 35 of the State House.

The agenda includes a staff recap of all outstanding questions and issues, as well as a review of possible funding sources and commission member discussion. The chairmen will then address the commission’s next steps.

Public testimony will be limited to the presentation topic. There is also an opportunity to offer written comments for the commission’s consideration at

The commission, co-chaired by Rep. Helio Melo (D-Dist. 64, East Providence) and Sen. Daniel Da Ponte (D-Dist. 14, East Providence), was established during the 2013 legislative session to allow lawmakers and officials from affected state departments and agencies an opportunity to investigate all types of equitable and reliable funding mechanisms and strategies to support Rhode Island’s infrastructure, including the Sakonnet River Bridge.
