Beverly L. (Luther) Smith, 93, of Bristol


Beverly L. (Luther) Smith, age 93, of Bristol, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at The Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late D. Lloyd Smith.

Born in Barrington, RI she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Joann (Harris) Luther. Beverly was a homemaker. Throughout much of her life, Beverly was active in numerous organizations including: Sowams Garden Club (past president and bird chairman), Order of the Eastern Star (past matron and grand marshal) Amaranth, White Shrine, Ladies Auxiliary, Rebekahs (past noble grand).

Her other interests included reading the newspaper, gardening, cooking and watching golf, football and baseball on TV, rooting for her beloved Patriots and Red Sox.

Beverly was a fountain of information and was always quick to provide thoughtful and wise advise to her children. Most recently, Beverly was an avid bird watcher through her window view of the numerous feeders around her house. She will be remembered for her great patience and good humor despite health issues over the past 5 years.

She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind including her seven children Donald L. Smith of Magnolia, Missouri, Dwight C. Smith of Sandston, Vir., Douglas E. smith of Pittsburgh, Penn., Cheryl A. Smith of Bristol, Rodney B. Smith of Vinal Haven, Maine, Alden K. Smith of Rehoboth, Mass., and Holly J. Smith of Bristol. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a brother, Walter Luther of Shelby, N.C.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, brother and sisters Charles Luther, Bert Luther, Bruce Luther, Marcia (Luther) Avila and Vivian Luther who died in infancy.

Funeral services are private and have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Rhode Island Audubon Society. For online condolence shared memories go to
