Bertha M. Nestell, 89, Barrington

Bertha M. (Hurlbut) Nestell, 89, of Maple Avenue, Barrington, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 with a private graveside service and Christian Burial on March 24, 2017.

Widow of Delbert R. Nestell, she is survived by two beloved sons, Michael P. Nestell and his wife Andrea of Warren, and James P. Nestell and his wife Pamela of Barrington, with whom she lived before her time at Orchard View Manor in East Providence.

Four grandchildren, Michael, Jocelyn, Isaac, and Paige. A brother Raymond Hurlbut of Ohio and a sister Marie Wilson of Florida.

She also leaves five other children.

She was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church in Warren, and taught Sunday school from 1967 to 2007. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
